Alliums
With a light rain and a sky
of anvil gray, the day appeared
more prone to grief than gladness
but for those dollops of decadence
that had risen in radiance above
a roadside garden, floating
like phantom planets free
of winter’s weight, animating
the air with their whimsical
orbits staking claim to what
little was left of the sun and,
while it was not my intent,
I found myself wondering
what I had done to deserve
this, my mood now lifted
and these soft plumed orbs
tethered firmly to memory.
