How Words Taste

How Words Taste

Sometimes the slant of a word,

the way it leans in my mouth,

makes it heavier than expected.

(promises)

Some words roll around my tongue,

like wasabi peas, almost too hot.

(broken)

Some are sharper than chips, shredding

my gums and lips as they escape.

(gone)
