Eyes

Eyes

barking foxes
ambushing cougars
hungry wolves
foraging bears
soul-eyed coyotes
bathing moose
snorting elk

their eyes see the you that you do not
know of yourself they roll
on wild backs
rub against trees
rest in grasses
drink from rivers
walk wilderness distances
know each other
you cannot conceive

these encounters
undo you just as
you might have wished to be
