Winter
Walk
Bare
branches
cast
skinny shadows
through
the park.
Winter
lives here now.
Frost
hardens the ground
as
it hardens me,
grown
soft
in
summer’s languor.
The
cold encourages solitude,
and
with it comes silence
and
a chance to appreciate nature,
in
its time of rest, without the distraction
of
other people.
There
may be pleasures
to
be found in groups,
or
listening to the prattle
of
families who fill these grounds
during
the summer,
but
I am content
in
the company of the trees,
and
the quiet of my own thoughts.
