Ambushed

Ambushed

Dew glistened on the fir needles.

Matthew raised his hand, fist clenched, and his company froze. He swept his rifle in an arc across the misty woods. His ears strained but heard nothing more than his own heartbeat.

He swung his arm forward and the unit paced ahead as one.

Under Matt’s foot a twig snapped. Gunfire erupted from the tree line and a burning in the centre of his chest stole his breath from him.

He touched the pain and his fingers came away scarlet.

Matt hurled his rifle to the ground. “God DAMN it,” he bellowed.

“I HATE paintball.”

  1. What a hilarious story you build up suspense very well and after a thrilling moment of shooting we see the amazing punchline that it was only paintball.
