Middle Roadkill

Middle Roadkill

the middle

is the twist

in my sobriety

the center

is the dagger

in my diaphragm

the fence

sits between the dog

and the fire hydrant

And the yellow

splashing your face

is not acid rain

is not lemonade

it’s the sum of

your sorry existence

  1. I had to read this several times. The is a powerful poem and hits the reader hard in the final line. Is it talking about being benign when one needs to take a stance, one might as well not even exist?

  2. i agree, Jill, this poem is pushing the shy to rise up and be counted. we live in a day of global disease and local stupidity. It is time to stand up.
